🏔️ The Adaptive Path

A Place Where Every Child Can Move, Explore & Grow

At Back Mountain Tumble Tots, we believe movement is about much more than physical activity.

The Adaptive Path uses creative movement and active play to help children build motor skills, body awareness, communication, social connection, regulation, confidence, and independence.

Our coaches combine purposeful skill-building with opportunities to explore, creating a supportive environment where children can participate at their own pace and in their own way.

Whether a child jumps right in, needs time to observe first, or benefits from additional movement and sensory support, there is a place for them here.

🌟 Movement Is a Tool for Whole-Child Development

The Adaptive Path creates opportunities for children to work on skills that reach far beyond movement itself.

🧗 Motor Skills & Physical Development

Children can practice:

  • Gross motor development
  • Balance and coordination
  • Body awareness
  • Strength and stability
  • Flexibility and stamina
  • Motor planning
  • Spatial awareness
  • Confidence with movement

🧠 Sensory Processing & Regulation

Movement can provide opportunities to explore and respond to sensory input in a thoughtful, supportive environment.

Children may practice:

  • Regulation through movement
  • Body awareness and proprioceptive input
  • Tolerance for different types of movement
  • Transitioning between activities
  • Recognizing when they need movement or a break
  • Participating in an environment with thoughtfully managed sensory input

🤝 Communication & Social Development

Movement and play naturally create opportunities for children to connect with others.

Children can practice:

  • Communication
  • Turn-taking
  • Following directions
  • Participating in group activities
  • Interacting with peers
  • Shared attention
  • Social confidence
  • Communicating needs and preferences

❤️ Confidence & Emotional Well-Being

Every successful attempt is an opportunity to build confidence.

Children are encouraged to:

  • Try new things
  • Take appropriate risks
  • Recover from frustration
  • Practice self-regulation
  • Celebrate personal accomplishments
  • Become more comfortable in new environments
  • Experience success without being expected to participate exactly like everyone else

💛 We Meet Children Where They Are

The Adaptive Path is guided—but never rigid.

Children are given room to explore, take breaks, try again, and participate in ways that feel comfortable for them.

Some children need more movement before they can focus.

Some need repetition.

Some need to watch before they are ready to participate.

Some communicate through movement before they have the words.

We meet children where they are.

Our “fair, not equal” philosophy means recognizing that different children may need different levels of support to reach the same goal: meaningful participation and success.

👥 Parents & Caregivers Are Part of the Experience

An adult over 18 participates alongside each child in The Adaptive Path.

This provides an additional layer of safety, connection, communication, and support while our coaches work directly with both the child and their adult.

Our coaches provide hands-on assistance, encouragement, and real-time strategies to help children participate, regulate, communicate, and succeed.

🌿 A Sensory-Conscious Environment

We thoughtfully manage lighting, music, and other environmental distractions to help children feel comfortable and focused.

Our goal isn’t to eliminate sensory input.

It’s to make it intentional and manageable.

👥 Who Is The Adaptive Path For?

The Adaptive Path is designed for children and young adults of all ages who experience physical, cognitive, emotional, social, language, or sensory challenges.

We welcome children with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Developmental delays
  • Autism spectrum profiles
  • Hyperactivity or hypoactivity
  • Coordination and balance difficulties
  • Fear of movement
  • Cerebral Palsy and physical differences
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Speech, language, and auditory differences
  • Visual impairments
  • Emotional, behavioral, and social challenges

A child does not need to fit neatly into one category to benefit from The Adaptive Path.

🗺️ The Right Environment Matters

Inclusive and Adaptive classes are both designed to welcome children with different needs, but they provide different environments and levels of support.

🌲 Inclusive Classes

Tiny Trekkers • Trail Sprouts • Little Hikers • Mountaineers

These classes are designed for children who are comfortable participating in a busy, active-play environment and are moving toward greater independence.

🌟 The Adaptive Path

The Adaptive Path is designed for children who benefit from a quieter, more individualized, sensory-conscious experience.

Children may benefit from this setting when they need:

  • An adult actively participating alongside them
  • Additional movement or sensory support
  • Frequent breaks or redirection
  • Reduced lighting or sound
  • More flexibility in how they participate
  • Individualized regulation strategies
  • Additional time to become comfortable with new activities or environments

The goal isn’t to make every child participate the same way.

The goal is to help every child find a way to participate successfully.

🌟 Every Child Has a Place to Begin

Your child’s first step doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Maybe they run in.

Maybe they hang back.

Maybe they need to move first.

Maybe they need you right beside them.

That’s okay.

At Back Mountain Tumble Tots, we’re here to help children find their own way to move, connect, communicate, build confidence, and have fun.

Every child. Every ability. Every adventure.
